Your privacy matters to us. Aquarify is built with respect for your personal information at its core. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and what rights you have.

Aquarify is operated from Ontario, Canada and is subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). While not legally required to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we hold ourselves to its standards because we believe everyone deserves strong privacy protections.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

  • Email address
  • Username and display name
  • Password (stored securely using one-way hashing — we cannot see your password)

Profile and Aquarium Data

  • Profile information you choose to share
  • Aquarium details including tanks, water parameters, inhabitants, and equipment
  • Water test records

Social and Activity Data

  • Posts, comments, and interactions
  • Likes and reactions
  • Connections with other users

Technical Data

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device information
  • Pages visited and actions taken

Signing in with Google (optional)

If you sign in with Google, we receive from your Google account your name, email address, and Google account ID. We use these only to create and secure your Aquarify account. We do not request access to any other Google data, such as Gmail, Drive, or Contacts.

Aquarify's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We never sell this data or use it for advertising or AI training.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Authenticate your account and maintain security
  • Display your content to other users as you intend
  • Send service-related communications such as account verification, security alerts, and important updates
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the platform
  • Enforce our Terms of Service
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your personal information for purposes beyond what is described here without your consent.

3. Third-Party Services

We work with a limited number of third-party services to operate Aquarify:

  • Cloudflare — security and bot protection, including Turnstile verification
  • Google AdSense — advertising displayed on the platform
  • Email service provider — transactional emails such as account verification and notifications
  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers — to run and maintain the platform

These services may collect or process data as necessary to provide their functionality. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.

4. Cookies

Aquarify uses cookies for:

  • Authentication and session management
  • Security and bot protection
  • Advertising via Google AdSense

You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect your ability to use some features of the Service.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Ever.

We only share data when:

  • It is necessary to provide the Service — for example, displaying your public profile to other users
  • Required by our third-party service providers to operate the platform
  • Required by law, regulation, or legal process
  • Necessary to protect the safety and security of our users

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:

  • Your account enters a 30-day recovery window
  • After 30 days, your personal data is permanently deleted

  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and associated data
  • Export your data
  • Withdraw consent for optional data processing

8. Children's Privacy

Aquarify is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly remove it.

9. International Users

Aquarify is operated from Ontario, Canada. If you access the Service from outside Canada, your information may be transferred to and processed in Canada. Regardless of your location, we apply the same privacy protections described in this policy.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you at least 30 days before material changes take effect via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of Aquarify after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
